“She’s on a mission. She wants a better life with more flexibility. She wants financial freedom. She wants to impact the world, and be able to provide for herself and her family” Sound familiar? Many moms can relate to this as the pressure from family and work are literally exhausting. The demands placed on moms…
“That the yielding conquers the resistant and the soft conquers the hard is a fact known to all yet utilized by none” -Lao Tzu I struggle daily with my patience, and have just recently had the need to start high blood pressure medication because I am unable to instill this simple yet profound statement in…
If anyone ever wondered what goes on behind closed doors in a professional dancers household, this is it! It can happen at any time! Out family is so accustomed to music playing and dancing being a part of our life, that is completely normal to bust the moves out in the kitchen, during dinner if a good song happens to comes on, or embarrassingly enough, sometimes even in public.
Yes. I turned it into a verb because that is what it is. It is the food lifestlye I have chosen for the kids and I, my immediate family, my friends, and even my ex significant others and their families. WHY, you ask, does someone need to choose a particular style of eating? IS all this hype really necessary? Or is it just another conspiracy theory or marketing scheme? Well, you may be extremely busy in your daily schedule, but I am about to tell you some information that could change your life. Whether it be for health or convenience and life simplification, I have chosen to Yevo, and here is why.
Happy Independence day to me! Feb 19th, 2016 marks the two year anniversary that I quit my job against a tyrant boss who I’ll just say is one of those people we all need to pray for. (I’ll keep the negative vibes off of my computer) I literally felt as if I sold my soul to the devil in desperation when I accepted the job after a separation from my then significant other that left me financially broke. I traded in my then two year old to day care for a salary that would more than comfortably support my three kids and I. Little did I know what the next year of my life would entail. For if I DID, I would have rather stayed broke and accepted government assistance, as nothing is worth your physical and mental health, or that of your children’s.
You know things have just gone from good to bad when the words “well, you are obviously not a mother” come out of your mouth. It’s that point you get to that no matter how wrong your child is, you’ll be damned if they are reprimanded by that person who quit obviously does NOT have children. The mother bear switch turns on and watch out! I really pray daily that I become that mother who stays cool, calm and collected. I mean, I did say those dreadful words with the utmost calmness, but my intonation was extremely clear. Back off before the attack of mother bear takes place!
After spending the day yesterday at motivational workshops lead by the country’s millionaires, a couple questions have come to mind. When do we loose those child like dreams and aspirations and just settle for where we are in life? WHY is there only a handful of truly successful people? I believe there is only ONE thing that sets us apart from the successful people that were on that stage….
I think I have officially “liked” every inspirational page on Facebook. My feed is full of them all day, and I love it! It is moment-to-moment inspiration and reminders of the person I am striving to be. Key word “striving”; as it is also a moment-to-moment struggle for me. I am usually always stressed out, frustrated, over booked, under equipped and exhausted all in one. I am THAT person who writes affirmations on their mirror, on my arm, and well, all around me, where ever possible, helping me keep my sanity. Today, I wanted to share some of my favorite quotes about motherhood. I hope you enjoy them and can relate.
Yes, that is correct! That is me in the photo, SUPER excited and at a bus station. As you can see, the kids do not share my enthusiasm as much, except maybe for the little one, as she prepared for our excursion with her coloring books and crayons and thought it was just as exciting as the merry go round at the zoo. The boys, however, would much rather have Mom drive them around in the Jag in luxury, comfort and convenience. Well, after much contemplation, I have decided that the boys are big enough to utilize some public transportation services to get from point A to point B. It could save me hours in driving, gas usage and some sanity. No more driving Ms Daisy! Therefore, as the pictures dictate, we did a trial run together on the bus routes before I sent them out on their own.
Today, I would like to think that the kids and I made a bit of history. We gathered at our state capital in Tallahassee along with thousands of others to rally against a law suit that is being pursued to eradicate student scholarships. These scholarships allow everyone equal access to private schools, or schools of their choice. Yes, it’s true and quit unbelievable; somewhere along the way, someone decided the scholarships are unjust, and an inappropriate allocation of corporate funds.
I don’t think I am breaking any child labor laws by saying this, but I do believe that by the time a child is 13 they are totally capable of working a few hours here and there beyond the normal, everyday, house hold chore list. Yes, it’s important they have down time. Yes, it’s important they have social time. Yes, it’s important they have extracurricular activity time and homework time. Keeping all those accounted for and in balance, and trust me when I tell you my kids have PLENTY of that, I have decided that this year both my teenagers will be involved in the family business. It’s far from a huge, fully funded corporation, but it is our very own little business. They will utilize their natural abilities and talents to help me market and grow our income source, and they will be paid accordingly as any other employee would, well, if I had any, that is.
I have tried educating my children on health and nutrition, but it is always questionable how much they are really comprehending, as I keep finding stashes of junk food hidden in their rooms, and their desire for fast food is a constant! One actually hates exercise and finds my desire to serve protein shakes and healthy food a “soccer mom” thing! I therefore was extremely surprised when my son and his friends created this mini commercial for me to make a little extra cash (which I found out later went straight to the convenient store candy section) Interpretation directly from a kid’s point of view is simply hilarious. Bottom line? They ARE listening! Just like everything else in parenting, we just have to keep drilling in the information on nutrition, and hope that they will eventually make the right choices in the end.
